1. Not only is chipboard more durable than foam core, it is more heat insulating.
2. Large amounts of insulated heat distorts mirrored acrylic. This type of distortion, you can't just fix with a spine.
3. Chipboard hot glues onto the back side of mirrored acrylic REALLY well. In fact, you probably won't be able to break it off, even if you bang it against a table or try to cut it off with an exacto.
4. Scratches made on the back of mirrored acrylic will produce scratches on the front of the mirrored surface.
